Born and raised in New York City, the Petie Bogen-Garrett came of age in the
early seventies when Pop Art was at its peak and was still the among
most influential of the avant garde movements. Influenced by the Soho
gallery scene while attending the film school at NYU, Petie pursued
an interest in photography. She also found resonance in the
portraiture and documentary work of Diane Arbus, Berenice Abbott and
Dorothea Lange.
Working for many years at the Picture Collection of the Library
of Virginia provided opportunities to study the work of many of the most
accomplished and influential photographers of the last 150 years, including
Alexander Gardner, Matthew Brady and Harry Mann.
The photo-essay
"Peripheral Vision" has been seen around Virginia at numerous venues
during last 10 years. Petie is currently focusing her camera on
"Singer-Songwriters" and other folk, traditional and rock musicians.
